COLONEL ALFRED WINTLE - ENGLISHMAN and VBCW ICON

The search is officially over. Of all the characters, real or imagined, that could take their part within the VBCW, nobody, but absolutely nobody, could possibly reflect the VBCW spirit better than Colonel Alfred Daniel Wintle MC, of His Majesty's 1st Royal Dragoons, veteran of the First and Second World Wars:

Colonel Wintle MC

For once, Wikipedia's biographical entry cannot be bettered. Prepare to giggle uncontrollably - SEE HERE.

And for those who enjoyed the Wiki Entry, keep your eye out for the Colonel's autobiography, "The Last Englishman":

CHURCHILL 150th ANNIVERSARY

2024 is the 150th Anniversary of the birth of Winston Churchill (30th November 1874) and thus, in his honour, we present some "colourised photographs" of young Winston, aged just 21, about to join the 4th Hussars as a lowly 2nd Lieutenant:

Churchill as a 2nd Lieutenant. This studio photograph was taken
about January 1895, when he joined his regiment.

The same photograph colourised.

Another shot from the same photographic session - young Winston seated - and now "colourised".

After resigning his regular commission, Churchill volunteered for a Yeomanry Regiment,
and joined the Queens Own Oxfordshire Hussars, as a Captain, in January 1902. He
was promoted to Major in 1905. This photograph shows Churchill in QOOH uniform,
with Captain's epaulettes and medals (inter alia) for the
South Africa and Sudan campaigns.

For VBCW historians and researchers, a more familiar image of Churchill,
in or about 1938. His long rumoured arrival in Herefordshire, as the commander
of the famous "Churchill Assault Column", can only be a matter of time...
