CHURCHILL 150th ANNIVERSARY

2024 is the 150th Anniversary of the birth of Winston Churchill (30th November 1874) and thus, in his honour, we present some "colourised photographs" of young Winston, aged just 21, about to join the 4th Hussars as a lowly 2nd Lieutenant:

Churchill as a 2nd Lieutenant. This studio photograph was taken
about January 1895, when he joined his regiment.

The same photograph colourised.

Another shot from the same photographic session - young Winston seated - and now "colourised".

After resigning his regular commission, Churchill volunteered for a Yeomanry Regiment,
and joined the Queens Own Oxfordshire Hussars, as a Captain, in January 1902. He
was promoted to Major in 1905. This photograph shows Churchill in QOOH uniform,
with Captain's epaulettes and medals (inter alia) for the
South Africa and Sudan campaigns.

For VBCW historians and researchers, a more familiar image of Churchill,
in or about 1938. His long rumoured arrival in Herefordshire, as the commander
of the famous "Churchill Assault Column", can only be a matter of time...
