In contrast to this earlier post on the "Oldest Film of Hereford", and this even earlier post by the Bishop's Broadcasting Service on "1930s Hereford", here are three interesting "live webcam" links for our worldwide audience:
(1). Hereford High Town Live Webcam HERE
The very centre of Hereford, with the "Old House" (left corner) in shot. If there was, say, to be a VBCW riot (coup?) in Hereford (see, perhaps, blogposts futuro), then possession of High Town would be critical. For an illustrated look at the history of the Old House, check out THIS POST on the Bishop of Ludlow's blog;
(2). Old Wye Bridge Live Webcam HERE
A view of the River Wye and the Old Bridge. The camera is on the roof of the modern "Left Bank Village", a post war redevelopment of Sully's Garage (later Mead & Tompkinson). It was from this very spot that Lord de Braose, during the early course of the VBCW, launched his infamous "Wye Dredging Programme" - see THIS POST (and excuse the pun);
Sullys Garage in April 1931. The garage was the first commercial premises in Hereford to be lit entirely by electricity. |
(3). River Wye Live Webcam HERE
A view of the River Wye looking towards the Victoria Bridge. On the right bank, Bishops Meadow. On the left bank, the Castle Green (with the hedge line enclosing a bowling green). During the VBCW, once Lord de Braose's "Wye Dredging Programme" finally got underway, this part of the river was full of gunboats and other "fighting craft"....
