THE JUBILEE POST

On 6th May 1935, King George V celebrated his Silver Jubilee. As part of the celebrations, King George and Queen Mary undertook a number of ceremonial drives around London. Some required more tact than others:

From Sloane Square into the Kings Road. Peter Jones, the well known department store,
is in the process of being rebuilt. But the Royal Party know that another building lies ahead...

The press caption notes that "Their Majesties graciously acknowledged
this enthusiastic reception" (rather than the salutes).

HRH Princess Elizabeth in 1935, not yet in
direct line to the throne. In one timeline,
1936 was to be the "Year of the Three Kings".
In another, 1936 marked the beginning of the
nation's descent into civil war...
