FEBRUARY 29th - TAKE COVER, GENTLEMEN !

The 29th of February only comes around once every four years, with the tradition that it is the one day upon which a lady may propose marriage to an eligible gentleman. Which led to lots of press speculation, at least back in the United States of 1928:

Gene Tunney was an American boxer and WW1 U.S. Marine, holding the World Championship belt from 1926 - 1928 (see his WIKI HERE). Charles Lindbergh, of course, needs no introduction. And for all followers of the Hereford VBCW blog, nor does the third most eligible bachelor in America, and he's not even American....

Note: on 10th December 1927, Wallis Simpson's divorce from her first husband, Earl W. Spencer, was finalised. On 21st July 1928, Wallis Simpson married her second husband, Ernest Simpson, at the Chelsea Register Office. The events of 1936 - and 1938 - were a long time in the future.....
